a tribute

I've always admired Roy Orbison for his vocal abilities.  In the words of k.d. lang he was the last of the great balladeers.  I wrote and sung this in his style and it just seemed to work in that genre.  The arrangement enhances this to a greater degree.  It would have been the greatest of honours for me to have had a song recorded by Roy but alas that is not to be.

about roy orbison

Roy Kelton Orbison (23 April 1936 - 6 December 1988) was an American singer/songwriter and musician, well known for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads.

Orbison grew up in Texas and began singing in a rockabilly / country & western band in high school until he was signed by Sun Records in Memphis.

His greatest success was with Monument Records in the early 1960s where 22 of his songs placed on the Top Forty, including "Only the Lonely", "Crying", "In Dreams", and "Oh, Pretty Woman". He joined the supergroup The Travelling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne and released an album in 1988.

He died of a heart attack at the age of 52, at the zenith of his resurgence.
