I had been listening to Alejandro Escovedo's song "Wedding Day" and really wanted to do something in the same vein but involving a father walking his daughter down the aisle. My intention was to write a father/daughter song as my own daughter now lives in the UK. Eventually I came up with Daddy Said which I think is an innocent, pure country-style song about childhood, nostalgia and growing up. I met a very influential female country music singer who said that my song reminded her of her roots. She also said that she knew where she came from and she said many people would be proud to sing a song like this. Once again the female vocalist was a no show at the studio but isn't that just typical of artistes. The producer asked me if I wanted to change the words so it could be a little boy's song, I answered no, sang it the way I wrote it and maybe one day a female artist will be touched enough to do it properly. My dream would be for Irish de Ment to sing it.
